About the Program
Cape Wrestling offers wrestling for anybody 6-15 years old. We have three teams: Beltway, County A and County B. Our Beltway Team is for the more experienced wrestlers that compete at a very high level. This team travels all over the Beltway. The county A wrestles in the competive county league. The County B Team is for the new wrestlers or those with a couple of years experience. All three of the teams practice together at Broadneck High School. We find that practicing together builds team comradery. We work hand in hand with the Broadneck High School wrestling coach as well with other area high school coaches. This way your child will become familiar with the same style of wrestling used in high school and beyond.
County B Team
This is for the newest wrestlers of all ages and wrestlers with a couple of years experience. We compete in the Anne Arundel County B League. Our County team has won the B Team Title 3 of the last five years. With our coaching staff wrestlers get a lot of attention. The County Team has a schedule of about 10-12 Dual Meets a season. A Dual Meet is when our team wrestles another team. We also wrestle in 3 or 4 novice tournaments during the season. These tournaments are done by age and weight. This gives the wrestler a chance to compete individually.
County A Team
The county A team is for wrestlers that are experienced and competitive but not ready and don't feel like they are ready for the beltway team. They will wrestle in tournaments with the beltway team and team tournaments. They will wrestle in the Anne Arundel County A league.
Beltway Team
Our Beltway Team competes in the Capitol Area Wrestling League. This is a very competitive league that offers our wrestlers a chance to wrestle with and compete against the finest wrestlers in the state. Cape's wrestlers compete very well in the league. We have 14 to 16 Dual Meets a season. We usually wrestle these in Tri-Meets. Along with the Dual Meets we also compete in 4 to 6 tournaments a year.
Coaching
In the Cape wrestling room there are 8-12 coaches on any given night. That gives us a very low coach to wrestler ratio. Wrestlers are given full attention for all of the practice time, with a lot of one on one coaching. Our coaching staff has well over 100 years of wrestling and coaching background. Coaches include: Scott Harrell, Craig Bohlman, Randy Bohlman, Gary Bohlman, Tim Bohlman, Dave Poe, Matt Reid, Pat Pollock, Greg Zemanski and other coaches from time to time.
Summary
Wrestling is a sport that really builds character and requires concentration. Wrestlers become quite disciplined not only in the wrestling room but outside as well. Although they become disciplined they also have a lot of fun. This sport really brings families together. In the past we have seen a lot of families build friendships with other families.
